Scrap 70s pedestrian zones
I WAS on Corporation Street and a man in a van asked me for directions to The Job Centre.
I wanted him to go up Ship Hill and turn down Mansfield Road, but you can’t do that. Basically, he would have to go down Corporation Street, go on the inner bypass, go to St Annes, down Doncaster Gate, go on Wellgate and then turn up Mansfield Road, ie go all around town.
This got me thinking, if we scrapped this 70s notion of pedestrian zones, and let cars back into Rotherham, then cars and customers would follow, and re vitalise the town.
