Rotherham Central services stopped after reported theft of signalling cables

Services to Leeds, Sheffield, York, Wakefield and Doncaster have been affected by the theft

TRAIN disruption to services through Rotherham Central this morning was caused by the attempted theft of signalling cables, rail operators have revealed.

Stagecoach Supertram told customers of disruption at 4.44am this morning and confirmed it would be unable to run its tram train services between Tinsley and Parkgate.

The operator said services would be diverted to Meadowhall until further notice. 

First and Stagecoach buses also said they will accept tickets for commuters in the affected area.

Northern confirmed it was also unable to operate rail services through Rotherham Central because of the attempted theft of signalling cables.

Northern said it would operate rail replacement services between Rotherham and Meadowhall and expected journey times to be extended by 20 minutes.
