Rotherham approves £1.3 million investment in electric vehicle charging points

CABINET members have approved a £1.3 million investment in 34 electric vehicle charging points in Rotherham town centre.

The bays will be built under a solar canopy at the council car park on Drummond Street, funded by a grant from the government.

It will take the number of publicly accessible chargers across the borough from 40 to 76.

Cllr Dominic Beck, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “This will be a significant investment to serve many homes which don’t have the private facility to be able to charge their electric cars on their own drive, because in many cases they don’t have one.”
