M1 speed restrictions are here to stay for 2016

SPEED restrictions on the M1 passing Rotherham will be in place until next winter, according to the Highways Agency.

The stretch between junction 32 at Thurcroft and junction 35a at Stocksbridge is being upgraded to smart motorway, with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place.

The hard shoulder also closed in both directions.

There will also be some lane and carriageway closures this week:

The northbound side of the motorway will also be reduced to a single lane tomorrow night.

The northbound side of the motorway between the slip roads at junction 32 will be closed overnight on Saturday.  

The northbound entry slip road at junction 33 will be closed overnight on Friday.

The northbound side of the motorway between the slip roads at junction 34 will be closed overnight tomorrow night.

The northbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed overnight on Thursday and Friday.

The southbound side of the motorway between the slip roads at junction 32 will be closed overnight on Sunday.  

The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, and drivers will be directed onto diversion routes.
