M1 set to reopen before evening rush hour after four-vehicle accident
A MOTORWAY carriageway closed after an accident early this morning should reopen by the evening rush hour.
Highways England said it hoped the southbound M1 could be open again by 4pm — more than nine hours after it was shut following a “serious incident” at 6.40am between junction 32 for the M18 and junction 31 for Aston.
Four vehicles were involved - two lorries, a van and a car.
All southbound lanes and hard shoulder were closed for investigations to take place, as well as the M18 to the M1 link is also closed.
Diversions were put in place via the A630 and A57.
