Free parking is early Christmas present for shoppers

Car parking will be free in all Council-run off-street car parks and on-street parking bays on Saturdays from tomorrow until December 27.

The scheme is part of the campaign to give the town centre a boost in the run up to Christmas.

Karl Battersby, strategic director of environment and development for Rotherham Borough Council, said: “The town centre has shop after fantastic shop, all offering a real alternative retail experience.

“We’re hoping that the success story that is Rotherham Town Centre will gain even more support with the free Saturday parking and even more people will discover just why retail expert Mary Portas said our shops were better than some in the heart of London.”

Although parking is free on Saturdays, maximum stay restrictions will remain in force and disabled bays will be strictly for the use of blue badge holders
