Diversion in place in Swinton after burst water main causes flood

A VILLAGE centre was left flooded and water supplies cut off after a huge leak this morning.

The junction of Queen Street, Church Street and Station Street in Swinton was deluged due to a burst pipe.

One resident shared a social media post saying Yorkshire Water had admitted up to 10,000 homes may be affected, and the water company confirmed homes in the S63, S64 and S65 postcode areas had been left with limited or no supply.

The road through the village centre remained blocked for most of the day, with diversions in place, as work was carried out to repair damage to the surface.

A spokesperson said on Wednesday afternoon: “Our teams have been on site in Swinton today dealing with a 18-inch burst main. We restored supplies to all properties this morning.

“The burst main has caused damage to the road.

“To allow repairs of the main and assessment of the damage to the carriageway to be completed safely, the road has been closed and diversions are in place.

“We are working as quickly as possible to carry out the repairs to minimise disruption and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”
