Bus services diverted after missiles hurled at vehicles

EVENING bus services through Swinton were suspended after reports of yobs hurling stones, eggs and other missiles.

Stagecoach put its night services on hold after a series of attacks – but it said it hoped to resume them tonight.

The company said drivers had faced “exceptional levels of anti-social behaviour” around the Swinton precinct area on a nightly basis.

This has involved stones, eggs and even bicycles being thrown at buses.

Stagecoach said in a statement: “We’re sorry to say that services 218, 218A, 220, 221 &208 will not serve parts of Swinton after 6pm each day until March 15 due to vandalism.

“We are working closely with the police and hope to return to normal service as soon as safely possible.”
