20mph speed limit for town centre roads
A NEW 20mph zone across Rotherham town centre will be in place before the end of March.
The £23,000 project — aimed at making shoppers feel safer — covers streets including Doncaster Gate, Corporation Street, Ship Hill and part of Wellgate.
Thirty-seven people have been injured in road accidents in this area during the past three years. These included 12 pedestrians and three cyclists.
New signs and extra traffic calming measures will be brought in. A Rotherham Borough Council spokesman said: “The scheme is expected to reduce vehicle speeds and injury accidents.”
