Tracey's Dragon Boat team tops £1,000

BUS worker and former cancer patient Tracey Mickle switched modes of transport to raise an oar-some £1,000 for a charity close to her heart

Tracey, who works as senior engineering clerk for Stagecoach in Rawmarsh, was a member of one of the 16-strong crews who took part in  Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity's Dragon Boat Regatta, at Rother Valley Country Park.

The 43-year-old was competing for the ninth year in the row and has raised more than £10,000 for the charity since being treated for the disease herself.

Tracey said: "It was tiring work but it went really well, we managed to beat our personal best which was previously 56 seconds but we shaved three seconds off that.

"We raced four times and I was exhausted.

"We were eventually knocked out in a semi final position and I think if we had to race again I would have needed a rest, but it was great to finish ninth out of more than 15 teams and get our best time."

Tracey was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 28 after undergoing a hysterectomy.

She is still collecting money pledged but is delighted that the money has already exceeded her £1,000 target.
