Town's volunteer heroes stride into the spotlight

VOLUNTEERS marched proudly through town to highlight the work they do.

National Volunteers Week celebrations in Rotherham included The Big Walk on Tuesday by volunteers and their supporters, who marched through the town centre before gathering at Clifton Park for a photo.

It is estimated that approximately 49,000 volunteers contribute around 85,300 hours of their time per week to services and activities in the Rotherham district.

The walk is part of Count Me In, a month-long celebration of volunteer work led by Voluntary Action Rotherham.

VAR is also holding a Small Charities Day at its base off Westgate on Friday  June 17, from 1pm to 3pm, where local businesses are invited to join voluntary and community sector staff and volunteers, to have a cuppa and a natter.

The aim is to “get Rotherham talking”.
