Tour De Yorkshire organisers urge motorists to avoid route

MOTORISTS and cyclists heading out this weekend are being urged to plan their journeys around the Tour de Yorkshire route.

Thousands of visitors and locals are expected to attend the event which will take place in three stages between May 1 and 3.

The race starts on Friday with a stage from Bridlington to Scarborough, followed by the second stage Selby to York and finishes on Sunday with a final stage from Wakefield to Leeds, taking in parts of Barnsley.

There are no planned closures on the Highways England network for the tour but plans are in place to manage traffic at key locations on the route.

Rolling road closures will take place along parts of the route and anyone travelling through the area is advised to allow extra time for their journey, or to plan an alternative route or time.
