Tickhill tree feller rescued after trapping his leg

A TREE feller had to be rescued from a 30ft tree after he became trapped by his leg.

The incident unfolded at Keepers Lodge Farm, near Tickhill Spital on Wednesday after the man had felled a number of large mature trees at the property.

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said a call was received at 10.46am to reports of a male trapped in a tree by his leg.

The spokesman said: “We deployed fast response vehicles, double crew ambulances and our hazardous area response team who are specially trained to deal with challenging incidents

“The fire brigade assisted paramedics to get to patient and assess his injuries.

“The patient was given pain relief for suspected fractured ankle and entrapment injuries.

“On scene, staff requested the air ambulance attend to provide transport to hospital.”

The Air Ambulance arrived on scene at 1.21pm and the man arrived at Sheffield Northern General at 1.28pm.

An eyewitness said: “He was up there for over an hour, until around 12.45pm while firefighters Rescue and paramedics worked to get him down.

“One of fire officers said to me that the man was being taken to hospital as a precaution and that he may have a broken ankle.”
