Thug "kung-fu kicked driver's windscreen"

MOTORIST Richard Moxon has described the horrifying moment a man smashed his windscreen with a two-footed kung-fu style kick and attacked him, while another thug ransacked his car.

Mr Moxon (47) was driving on Main Street, Bramley, at around 8.30pm on Saturday (2) when the terrifying attack happened.

He said he got out of his MG ZT after his windscreen was smashed and was attacked by one man, while the othe searched through his car and stole his mobile phone.

They then fled the scene leaving, Mr Moxon lying on the ground.

“I was driving along and saw a guy standing in the middle of the road so I stopped,” said Mr Moxon, of Maltby.

“He did a run and did a two-footed lunge into the windscreen, which smashed the windscreen.

“I pulled over onto the side of the road and got out and asked what he was doing.

“He walked up and just punched me in the face.

“I went down and he started ragging me all over the place, a bit of punching going on and kicking.”

Mr Moxon said the attack lasted for “a minute or two” and left him with grazes and cuts to his face and elbow.

He said that when the men started to walk off, he got back in his car and “shot off as fast as he could”.

He went to his mother Kathleen’s house which was nearby and she called the police.

Mr Moxon said he was baffled as to why the attack happened, adding: “I did not know who they were.”

The motorist said he initially suspected the two white men may have been from Eastern Europe though he now wondered if their way of speaking may have been because they were drunk or drugged.

He added: “It does knock your confidence and it destroys your faith in humanity that it could happen in a sleepy village like Bramley.

“I’m not stopping for anyone I don’t know now.”

Mr Moxon said the police response to his mum’s 999 call had also left him upset.

“My mum spoke to a person on the phone and he basically said we were not going to send anyone out,” he said.

Mr Moxon said he still had not been spoken to directly by the police by Tuesday this week.

Mrs Moxon, whose son had been visiting her before he was attacked, said she had been told by a police officer that her 999 call had been “wrongly assessed and given a lower priority”.

She said once officers realised what had happened, the case was given a new crime number and investigations began.

But in the mean time, family and friends had been asking people and businesses if they had seen anything or caught suspects on CCTV.

Mr Moxon’s sister, Julie, said she believed action by the police had only launced an internet appeal on Monday after she complained to MP Keith Barron and councillors.

But South Yorkshire Police said officers had made several attempts to visit and contact the victim to progress the investigation and obtain a statement, as well as carrying out CCTV enquiries in the area.

An appeal for information had also been circulated on the Local Policing Team’s social media account. The appeal for help ended with the phrase “Please share but don’t suggest it is Jackie Chan!”

Officers asked anyone with information to call 101 or email [email protected], quoting incident number 1170 of July 2.
