Thriller The Best Man comes to South Yorkshire

OCTOBER may feel a long way off but tickets are on sale now for a political thriller hoping to put politics front and centre this autumn.

Veteran TV star Martin Shaw leads the cast in the UK premiere of The Best Man, which comes to the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield from October 23 to 28.

Gore Vidal’s award-winning political thriller about the race for the White House is as relevant as ever in a time of political chaos.

The plays mirrors the often surprising results of campaigning and the unscrupulous world of politics.

Two opposing presidential party candidates are neck and neck in an unscrupulous battle for the nomination.

The only thing that separates the esteemed ex-Secretary of State and his newcomer populist opponent is an endorsement from a respected ex-President.

But where does compromise end and corruption begin? And who in the end will be proven to be 'the best man'?

Another show annouced for the Lyceum, this time with a more light-hearted feel, brings former England cricket hero Andrew Flintoff to the Lyceum stage.

“Freddie” will line up with X Factor winner Sam Bailey and fellow TV talent show winner Jodie Prenger in Fat Friends: The Musical from February 12 to 17 next year.

Fat Friends: The Musical is written and directed by BAFTA and multi award-winning Kay Mellor and, like the TV show of the same name, follows the lives of a group of overweight friends as they struggle with the absurdities of modern dieting.

It features  original music and songs composed by Nicholas Lloyd Webber, zumba performances a generous serving of hilarious fun and a sprinkle of romance on top.
