Theme park makes homelessness charity’s 40th birthday a happy one

GULLIVER’S theme park boss Julie Dalton sang a happy 40th birthday to Rush House — and spoke about plans for a partnership with the homelessness charity.

It was one of the highlights of a special afternoon at New York Stadium as the Doncaster Road-based good cause celebrated four decades of supporting Rotherham youngsters.

Former residents Gino Moyo and Aaron Joy spoke about how Rush House changed their lives and how they have both gone on to study at Sheffield Hallam University.

Other ex-service users Keenan Freer, John-Luke Stephens-Platts, Amanda Haynes and Melanie Bryan talked of their experiences — how Rush “saved their lives” and their achievements since.

Founder and trustee Rosemary Boyle was presented with flowers from current service manager Lisa Rachieru.

Lisa and colleagues Michelle Corker and Steve Harris spoke passionately about what they love about working for Rush.

Rush House chief executive Rachael Wilson and predecessors Jim Stevens and Jo Smith also gave their thoughts.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “All the hard work paid off and created a fantastic event that we are so proud of.

“We would like to thank all of the staff involved in organising, the speakers, table sponsors and attendees who collectively made it so amazing.

“It’s not like us to stand still, so watch this space to see what we are hitting the ground running with next.”
