Tesco masterplan approved

Councillors unanimously backed proposals by developers TCN for a new supermarket at Drummond Street.

It will create 200 jobs in addition to the 250 staff being transferred from the current Forge Island store.

TCN director Stephen Holme said: “We worked closely with the community over recent months to make sure that we presented the best possible application.”

Tesco corporate affairs manager Matthew Magee added: “Our new store will also help to attract more shoppers into the town centre which will benefit other businesses in the area.”
