Swinton precinct spruced up

YOUNG people on the Prince’s Trust programme cleaned graffiti, fixed benches, planted trees and picked up litter in their community.

Team Valiant chose to improve the centre of Swinton as part of the 12-week project run jointly by South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.

Meanwhile, Team Hero in Barnsley chose to give the Hard and Fast boxing club in Cudworth a makeover.

And between them the groups raised more than £1,000 with a sponsored walk, bag packing and other events.

Temporary Chief Supt Paul McCurry said: “The team programme is about building confidence and giving support to the young people to help them gain further employment and education.

“The community projects are a great way for them to feel part of their community and have a real sense of achievement. They should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
