Star seekers host astronomy events

THERE is a busy October ahead for members of an astronomical society.

Members of Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society have a number of lectures by experts and public outreach initiatives planned.

Society meetings – all in the meeting room at Swinton Bottom Club on Station Road, Swinton – include a special general meeting on October 1, a meeting on October 8, a talk by Julian Onions on October 15, a visit by Prof Roger Eccleston on October 22 and a talk called Building the J A Jones Observatory by Gary Gawthorpe and Tony Morris on October 29. 

All meetings start at 7.45pm.

The society will be hosting a community access event on October 16 at the JA Jones Hoober Observatory on Lea Brook Lane, Wentworth, from 7.45pm to 10pm which is by appointment only. Anyone interested should contact Les Marsden on 01709 584217.

On October 17 there is a public event called Stargazing at RSPB Old Moor nature reserve in Manvers with Lee Marsden and Phil Muffett.
