SNOW UPDATE: School closures and transport updates

SNOW and ice have caused commuter carnage in parts of the borough and forced schools to close.

Overnight snowfall and plunging temperatures have once again gripped the borough and, despite the efforts of gritting teams who worked through the night, certain areas have been hit hard.

Head teachers at Brinsworth Comprehensive, Catcliffe Primary, Badsley Primary, Monkwood Primary, Newman Special School and the Willows Special School have all announced closures today, along with Thomas Rotherham College.

Oakwood High School and Dinnington Comprehensive, meanwhile, have suspended its opening time to 10.30am, with Swallownest Primary opting to open its doors at 10am.

Rawmarsh Children's Centre and The Arnold Centre, off Goldsmith Road, Herringthorpe, have also been closed for the day.

MET Office forecasts suggest that temeratures could struggle to rise above one deg C today, with snowfalls likely throughout the day.

Bus services were also affected by adverse conditions on the borough’s roads.

First Buses recommended catching a bus service on a clear, main road as some services cannot get on to side roads.

1,2, 10: Services operating via Bawtry Road, Hamilton Road and Muglet Lane ONLY in Maltby.

10, 27 and 29: Services not serving Rotherham Hospital grounds.

14: Not serving Dovedale Road. Operating via Herringthorpe Valley Road to Stag.

15: Not serving East Herringthorpe, terminating at Mowbray Gardens.

34: Not serving Beaconsfield. Operating via Broom Rd and Broom Lane in both directions.

39,40, 41 and 42: SERVICES SUSPENDED.

37: Terminates at Mushroom Roundabout, Dalton.

66: SERVICE SUSPENDED.

X5: Terminating at the Saxon pub, Kiveton Park.

X78: Not serving Conisbrough village.

18: Missing out Laughton en-le-Morthen.

22X: Severe delays due to problems on Rawmarsh Hill.

108: Not serving Rawmarsh estates.

109: Not serving Rawmarsh estates.

217: Not serving Kilnhurst or Swinton, diverting via Woodman. Not using Bolton estate or Highgate

218: Not serving Kilnhurst or Swinton, diverting via Woodman. Not serving Highwoods estate in Mexborough or Bolton estate.

220: Not serving Conisbrough or Denaby estate due to blocked roads at Castle and Denaby.

221: Not serving Conisbrough or Denaby estate dueto blocked roads at Castle and Denaby.

222: Not serving Conisbrough or Denaby estate due to blocked roads at Castle and Denaby. Not serving Burman Roador Quarry Hill Road in Wath.

228: Not serving Burman Road or Quarry Hill Road, Wath.
