Snow and ice brings gridlock to South Yorkshire

First says all its Rotherham bus services are running on main roads only until further notice today and all bus services in Sheffield have been suspended.

Wickersley was  badly hit by the conditions with traffic gridlocked.

An accident between a car and a van closed Droppingwell Road Greasbrough, both ways between A629 Upper Wortley Road and New Droppingwell Road

Traffic was also slow on the M1 through the region where one lane was closed by snow earlier.

The M18 southbound from Junction 1 at Bramley was subject to delays and a 40mph limit and there is heavy traffic on the A57  eastbound in Todwick between the Goose Carr Lane junction and the B6059 Sheffield Road junction.

Routes in and out of Sheffield were also badly hit with heavy traffic reported.

Met Office weatherman say the snow is likely to turn to rain later today.
