Shaun Wright quits Rotherham Council to focus on Police Commissioner role

SOUTH Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright has quit as a Rotherham councillor.

In a statement today, Mr Wright said: “Since being elected as South Yorkshire PCC I have been very conscious of my various roles within the community and wanted to take my time to assess how much of my voluntary work I could realistically continue.

"Having now had the time to take stock it's apparent I can't give the time to fulfil my councillor duties as I would wish and the community of Rawmarsh and Parkgate deserve the very best in these difficult times. I've therefore made the decision to stand down as a councillor within Rotherham."

Mr Wright has represented the Rawmarsh and Parkgate Ward as a Labour councillor for 13 years.
