RSPCA probe after horse dumped and left to die in woods

WALKER Paul Blaize was stunned to find the corpse of a starved horse dumped by a footpath at a Dearne Valley beauty spot.

The horse is thought to have been alive when it was dumped in woods in Clayton, near Thurnscoe, but died before RSPCA officials reached the scene.

The RSPCA are investigating, but say it is the latest in a spate of similar grisly finds across South Yorkshire recently.

Paul (50), a developer from Hooton Roberts, said: “When I’ve walked that area before, I’ve come across two or three dead Rottweilers in the woods and three young hares that had been killed and burned.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “We believe this poor animal had been dumped out of the back of a truck or van to die, probably because the owners didn’t want to pay for a vet to treat it.

“Anyone with any information about the owners should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 and leave a message for inspector Tamsin Drysdale.”
