Rotherham’s star students celebrate top GCSE marks

The celebrations began after schools across the borough opened their doors to let teenagers find out how they had fared in this summer’s Year 11 exams.

Maltby Academy, Wickersley, Winterhill and Saint Pius X all secured an impressive 100 per cent record for English at A* to G, with Aston and Wingfield not far behind with 99.6 per cent and 99.4 per cent respectively.

Star performers included:

Wath Comprehensive School’s Caitlyn Barber and Charlotte Palmer, who both landed 12 A*s.

Wickersley School and Sports College’s Grace McCaffery and Emily O'Boyle, who both both received 12 A*s and two As, Joseph Massingham, with 11A*s, two As and one B and Hope Liversidge, who racked up 11A*s and one B.

Maddie Jewitt and Jessica Chan,  of Saint Pius X Catholic High School, who were celebrating with  ten A*s & one A and seven A*s, four As and 1B respectively, were the toast.

Aston Academy’s Abigail Pinchbeck, Natalie Magee and Becky Cooper, who all achieved ten A*s and two As.

Maltby Academy’s Lili Crawshaw (nine A*s and one A), Alex Slack (eight A*s and four As) and Ella Nartey (eight A*s and two As).

Rotherham Borough Council’s strategic director for children and young people’s services, Ian Thomas, said: “Congratulations to all the students who have worked so hard to achieve these results.

“They are a credit to the teachers, parents and, of course, the pupils themselves.

“Early indications show that Rotherham's results for English are significantly improved from last year, which is something to be incredibly proud of.

“Maltby Academy, Wickersley, Winterhill and Saint Pius X all have an incredible 100 per cent record for English at A* to G, with Aston and Wingfield not far behind with 99.6  per cent and 99.4 per cent respectively, which is an amazing result.

“I know a lot of hard work has gone into achieving these results and I’d like to say well done to each and every student for their dedication and perseverance.

“It’s onwards and upwards for Rotherham's students now with many taking their next steps into further education.

“I wish them all continued success in both their lives, and learning.”
