Rotherham's asylum seeker provision taken over by Group 4 Security

RESPONSIBILITY for more than 100 asylum seekers living in Rotherham is to be taken over by Group 4 security.

Rotherham Borough Council currently provides accommodation for 114 asylum seekers under a Home Office contract, with another 171 being housed by private sector companies.

But the contract expires in May and, after a four-month transition period, all the asylum seekers in Rotherham will be supported by Group 4.

Council leader Cllr Roger Stone said the council would be hoping to influence Group 4’s plans for accommodation in Rotherham to ensure cohesion issues were addressed.

The council’s four-strong Asylum Team will be wound up in the autumn.
