Rotherham turns blue to beat the ice

BLUE is the colour if you want to be sure of staying safe on icy pavements this winter.

Rotherham’s Streetpride officials have been using a high-tech alternative to traditional rock salt which has been developed by Rotherham-based firm Enviro Thaw Ltd to combat this week’s freezing conditions.

Karina Oldale hopes will lead to deals with authorities throughout the UK.

She said: “It was great to see the streets of Rotherham shaded blue with our product this week. A really proud moment.

“The Enviro Thaw granules have prompted a few questions from people around town but it has been doing its job of keeping the pavements free of ice and snow.

“The fact that Rotherham Borough Council are trialling the product in the town centre is wonderful. It proves that they trust that it works as we claim it does.”

Trials of Enviro Thaw, which is produced on the Northfield Industrial Estate, are also being carried out at Luton Airport.
