Rotherham Independents Manifesto

Rotherham Independents have formed from the communities that make up Rotherham as a direct response to the tired old tribal party politics that we believe have caused the problems that we face.

We in the Rotherham Independents take a totally different approach to this matter.  We believe that the electorate should be involved in the formulation of policy because they know best what they want. We also understand that, what is right for one Ward or Constituency is not necessarily right for another.

If it was possible to apply the 'one size fits all' approach to the views of the electorate then why on earth do we have individual MPs and Councillors? Under those circumstances you may just as well vote for the Party and do away with the local representatives.

We are the antidote to the tired, greedy, sleazy and corrupt ways that have so damaged public life, destroyed the confidence in politics generally and exploded the myth that Labour is the 'Party of the People', once and for all. They are only in it for themselves.

Rotherham Independents believe:

·         The interests and concerns of the people must come first

·         We will be accountable to the electorate and will be accessible to them

·         The bickering, narrow Party interest must go because Rotherham deserves better

·         The Town Hall belongs to the people and they want it back

·         Being a Councillor is not a job and the £1.1M paid out to them last year, too much

·         Decisions should always be made on merit and not Party interest

·         The culture of secrecy that pervades the Town Hall must stop

·         Openness, honesty and truth that we represent is needed to turn our town around

·         Scrutiny of the work of the Council is almost non existent. We will supply it

We are different to the main Parties. We believe that co-operative action with the people of Rotherham is key to building a strong and prosperous Rotherham.

We offer a genuine and viable alternative to the 'control freak' old Parties that, between them, have brought our town to its knees.

We believe that our open approach, as opposed to the secretive nature of both the main Parties on the Council, is just what Rotherham needs - a new, fresh start from the exhausted, corrupt and greedy past.

All Rotherham Independents are fully committed to the highest standards of conduct and probity and have adopted the 'Bell Principles' as an addition to the Code of Conduct for Standards in Public Life.
