Rotherham gears up for Remembrance Day parade

ROTHERHAM will remember the fallen this weekend as the town’s annual remembrance tribute takes place.

On Sunday  — Armistice Day itself — the annual Remembrance Parade will be led by the South Yorkshire Police band through the town centre, before services at Rotherham Minster and Clifton Park.

The parade will include a civic party led by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Dave Pickering, and featuring the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, David Moody; the chief executive of Rotherham Borough Council, Martin Kimber;  council leader Roger Stone; and John Bramah, of the High Sheriff’s office.

The parade will also include representatives of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Signals, the 146 Field Company REME, the 218 (Rotherham) Squadron RAF Cadets, the Royal Air Force Association, the Rotherham Sea Cadets,; the Rotherham Army Cadets, Rotherham Scouts, Rotherham Police Cadets and the St John Ambulance Brigade.

Starting in Effingham Square at 9.15am, the parade will make its way through the town centre to the Minster for a 9.45 am service conducted by the Vicar of Rotherham, Rev Canon David Bliss.

The Bishop of Sheffield, the Right Rev Dr. Steven Croft, will be the preacher at the service.

The band will then lead worshippers to the war memorial in Clifton Park for an 11am service of remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony.

The event will conclude with a march past Rotherham Town Hall by the parade, with the Mayor of Rotherham and the Lord Lieutenant taking the salute.
