Rotherham firms welcome Duke of Kent

ROTHERHAM welcomed its second royal visitor in two months as the Duke of Kent dropped by to visit two businesses.

The Duke followed in the Countess of Wessex's recent footsteps when he visited waste plant Sterecycle in Templeborough and the new premises of metals firm MTL in Brinsworth on Wednesday.

Sterecycle chief executive Tom Shields who gave the royal visitor a tour of the plant, said: “We're delighted to have had the opportunity to host His Royal Highness and to show him around the facility.”

Sterecycle’s plant is currently being expanded to more than double its capacity from 100,000 tonnes per year to 240,000 tonnes per year, which is expected to create ten jobs.

The Duke also stopped by at MTL’s new £5 million factory, where he had a look at the firm’s latest hi-tech equipment.

A former vice-chairman of British Trade International, the Duke has long been active in promoting Britain and British companies by leading overseas trade missions and visiting companies large and small across the United Kingdom.
