RCAT puts Howard Building on market

A SITE where several generations of Rotherham students have been educated is up for sale.

The Howard Building will be vacated by September after Rotherham College of Arts and Technology deemed it surplus to requirements.

It follows the opening of the new £7 million Wentworth Building in 2011—part of a major investment programme for RCAT’s town centre campus.

The four-storey Howard Building has been used for education since it was built in the 1930s. It has also been home to Granby Howard Nursery since 2004.

Current consent allows the 3,900sq metre site, on Howard Street, to be used for non-residential purposes such as education or a medical centre.

Other possible uses—such as office, retail or flats—would need planning permission.

No guide price has been made public. Rotherham Borough Council is acting as marketing agents.
