Pub takes real ale title for fourth year running

STAFF at The Beehive in Harthill proved they really were the bees’ knees after being named the Campaign for Real Ale’s pub of the year for the fourth year running.

The Union Street pub was chosen as the Rotherham CAMRA Pub of the Year by the association's members from across the borough.

Landlady Emma Swan said: “It means an awful lot to us to win. It’s a huge achievement because there’s a lot of pubs in Rotherham.

“CAMRA praised us on quality of beer, the choice of beers and the atmosphere.

“I think they recognise we put a lot of work into keeping a traditional village pub going, which isn’t easy these days.”

Staff at the pub are busy making final preparations for this year’s beer festival, which will be held from August 26 to 28.

There will be more than 60 real ales and 30 different ciders on offer through the weekend as well as live music and a barbecue.

Tickets cost £6 in advance or £7 on the gate, with proceeds being donated to MacMillan Cancer Support.
