£1.5 revamp for Rotherham kidney unit

A LEADING kidney specialist unit in Rotherham will be official reopened tomorrow after a £1.5 million makeover.

The renal dialysis facility at Rotherham General Hospital, which is run by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and private firm Diaverum, has been modernised and extended with extra rooms, new equipment and a state-of-the-art IT system.

The revamp means that the newly refurbished unit can now provide dialysis for 120 patients, allow more dialysis patients living in the Rotherham area to receive treatment closer to home.

The unit now has 20 dialysis stations, including two in isolation rooms, four beds, new medical equipment and personal freeview TV to improve the patients’ experience when undergoing dialysis at the new facility.
