£10,000 reward offered to catch Tommy Ward's killers

CRIMESTOPPERS are offering a reward of up to £10,000 for information on the murder of Maltby pensioner Tommy Ward.

Tommy, an ex-miner and former soldier, died in February — five months after he was savagely beaten in his own home on Salisbury Road by robbers who stole his £30,000 life savings.

The great-grandfather was treated at Rotherham Hospital after being found seriously hurt at home early on October 1 but never recovered.

The charity Crimestoppers is now offering the reward of up to £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for Tommy’s murder.

It follows the offer of a £5,000 reward from Maltby businessman Ryan Bevan, who runs Maltby Tyre Services, back in March.

Four people were arrested in connection with the killing but later released and police are seeking new information.

Tommy’s son Sean Ward told the Advertiser last month that his dad’s killers were “monsters”, adding: “It’s hard to rest knowing they are still out there. He was such a nice man who would do anything for anyone.

“They want stringing up, how can they sleep at night?”

Gemma Wilson, Regional Manager for South Yorkshire Crimestoppers, said: “The images of Tommy following his ordeal left a lump in my throat when I think what he went through at the hands of these thugs.

This could have been your relative, or your grandfather who went through this.

“That is why I’m asking that if anyone has any information on the individuals who did this, to make sure it doesn't happen again and contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

If you have any information, please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
