Primary school art to win Westminster vote

A SKILLS organisation set up a children’s art competition which will see the winning work placed within the Department for Education in Westminster.

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills, which has its non-London HQ at Manvers, has teamed up with Gallery Town for the contest.

It has challenged Rotherham primary school pupils to imagine how the world of work might look like in 2050 and what new or different jobs might be needed.

They were asked to think of what new technology might be involved and how traditional jobs like teacher or nurse might change.

UK CES assistant director Alex Curling said: “We believe in inspiring young minds to look to the future, imagining what the world of work may look like in years to come.

“Our own research highlights a wealth of changes already beginning to take place, and we’re looking forward to seeing how today's primary school children see tomorrow’s careers.

“Gallery Town has given us an excellent opportunity to do that in a very creative way.”

Gallery Town aims to increase footfall and contribute to the cultural and economic regeneration of Rotherham town centre through its open air exhibits.

The contest deadline is Friday and the winners will be announced on June 22.

The winning artwork will be installed at the UK CES offices at the DfE.
