Post office closes for revamp

A TOWN centre post office will close next week for a fortnight as part of a modernisation programme.

Wellgate Post Office will shut at 5.30pm on Tuesday and reopen at 1pm on Tuesday, May 20.

A Post Office spokesman said the revamped branch would have three serving positions —a mixture of one modern screened serving position, one new-style open plan position and a serving point at the till, where many Post Office services will be available throughout shop opening hours.

Customers will now be able to renew their car tax at the Wellgate branch.

The branch will continue to open from 9am to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday.

Post Office regional network manager, Lesley Frankland, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Rotherham and we are confident that the Post Office local service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Customers are advised to go to Rotherham Post Office in Bridgegate and Clifton Post Office in Middle Lane during the closure.
