PLANS to demolish a petrol station to develop a modern 24-hour forecourt have been approved by Rotherham Council.

Applicants Canklow Bridge Ltd will build a new “roadside services” development on the site of Canklow Service Station.

This is set to include a convenience store, hot food unit, drive-thru coffee shop and jet wash.

Planning papers said the current building was suffering from a worn-out appearance and damaged surfaces.

There was one objection, which suggested there was no need for the service station with one already opposite on West Bawtry Road.

But RMBC was happy with the plans and granted permission. A spokesperson said: “The proposal will not result in a loss of employment land given the proposal will still provide employment opportunities to the local community on a long established former car sales site which is now vacant.

“In addition, the design of the proposed buildings and the site layout in general would raise no issues and would help regenerate a prominent vacant site.”
