“I would like to thank those councillors and staff who have worked so hard, especially in the early days when I was new. Many have become lifetime friends.

“Special thanks go to the army of volunteers that have, and still do, provide a warm and wonderful welcome at Winthrop Gardens for anyone who visits.

“I wish the parish council well for the future.”

Chairman Cllr John Barber said the parish council was very sad to lose the services of Cllr Ellis, who continues to represent the area on Rotherham Council.

He added: “For over 30 years she has achieved so much for the council and for the residents of Wickersley.
