Toilets to be turned into community centre

A VILLAGE’S former public toilet block will become a mini community centre, under new plans.

Whiston Parish Council has applied to convert the old loo building beside the brook, on High Street.

The plans show a new internal break-out space, with kitchen and toilets. The existing access would be blocked up and a new entrance door would be added at one end.

The plans for the area outside show a new external patio terrace.

Parish council clerk Elaine Keeling-Heane said the idea was formed by members who felt it a shame the building was left unused and saw the potential for community benefit.

She added: “It is envisaged that local groups, possibly including non-profit organisations such as girl guides, youth clubs, maybe able to make use of the space on occasion.

“It is not envisaged that it would be hired by one group alone or on a permanent basis.”
