This required them to close immediately because of unacceptable standards and was backed by magistrates on September 29.

The takeaway was allowed to reopen on October 18 after RMBC officers visited and were confident that the infestation had been cleared and the building cleaned and disinfected.

The operators appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday (25) and admitted four food hygiene offences.

They were fined £1,000 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £400.

Cllr Dominic Beck, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “Food business operators have a legal duty to keep their premises hygienic and any failure to do so will not be tolerated.

“Where public health is at risk, council environmental health officers will take the necessary enforcement action to put controls in place.”
