Hide AdA council spokesman said: “The principle of re-development of the site for an educational and community use is acceptable in this location.
“The design is considered to be of a high-quality building that has a contemporary appearance that will uplift the area in this prominent location.”
Only eight car parking spaces will be provided at the site as most journeys are expected to be on foot to and from the college’s town centre campus.
The spokesman added: “Due to the site’s sustainable location and the use of a travel plan and existing college facilities, the minimal on site car parking is satisfactory.”
