Mobile CCTV vehicle launched to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Rotherham

A MOBILE CCTV vehicle has been launched to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in hotspot areas of the borough.

The Rotherham Council van will also be deployed for public safety at events.

Cllr Saghir Alam, cabinet member for community safety, said: “Members of the public have told me they feel safer when seeing CCTV.

“They know that the council and our partners are trying to prevent anti-social behaviour and record the evidence needed to prosecute criminals.

“The van is fitted with communications equipment for use as a mobile command centre, making it a useful tool for various operations and community events. It also has open water rescue and lifesaving equipment.”

The council secured funding from the Home Office and worked with South Yorkshire police commissioner’s office to convert the vehicle.
