A COUNCIL tenant reportedly told police officers who busted his £20,000 cannabis grow that he had turned to cultivating the drug to clear his debts.

Officers from Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team found 50 plants growing in two bedrooms and a storeroom at a flat on Briery Walk, Greasbrough, during a tenancy visit yesterday (Tuesday).

The plants, which were at various stages of growth, will be sent for forensic examination and are worth an estimated £20,000, an officer said.
