COUNCIL bosses expect to make a profit on the 35-year Forge Island lease granted to developers Muse.

Cabinet members approved the agreement on Monday, December 17, in the latest step towards the cinema project becoming reality.

The site is seen as an “essential catalyst” to the wider regeneration of Rotherham town centre.

Cllr Denise Lelliott, cabinet member for jobs and the economy, said: “We’ve been working for a long, long time to get Forge Island developed.

Muse are really experienced in big developments and this will enable us to move to the next stage.”

A council report said: “The financial modelling over the 35-year period shows that the council’s anticipated income from the development exceeds the total anticipated head lease costs.”
