Council investing in more CCTV to tackle anti-social issues

COUNCIL bosses will buy 21 CCTV cameras to improve efforts against anti-social behaviour.

They will buy one per ward after setting aside £60,000 in the budget for 2018/19.

Cllr Emma Hoddinott, cabinet member for community safety, said: “We know anti-social behaviour is a big issue for people.

“There are a variety of tools and powers that are being used and mobile CCTV cameras are just one of those tools.

“They have been used in the past but it’s fair to say that it has been patchy across the borough.”

A report to senior councillors said the authority already had a number of cameras that can be fitted to street furniture like lampposts but these have been unreliable.

Councillors will decide where to place the cameras and residents will be notified.
