Police name South Yorkshire's new top cop

SOUTH Yorkshire Police Authority has appointed David Crompton as its new chief constable.

The 48-year-old takes over from Meredydd Hughes, who retired from the force in October.

Mr Crompton joins from West Yorkshire Police, where he became deputy chief constable in 2008.

He said: “It is a great honour and privilege to become chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, a force which has a fantastic reputation as one of the best in the country.”
