Plaudits for hedgehog saviours

FIREFIGHTERS were praised for rescuing a baby hedgehog that was in the middle of the road.

The Rotherham Blue Watch team had been returning from fitting smoke alarms in the Tickhill area when they found the “spiky little fella” at around 3pm on Saturday.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that they had stopped traffic, scooped the hedgehog up, popped him in a smoke alarm box and then delivered him to a hedgehog rescue in Bramley.

Dianne Rousseau added: “Thank you to the firefighters. You saved this little one’s life.”
