A MORNING of downpours threatened to make it a washout, but it turned out bright and sunny for Wath in the end.

The annual town gala saw crowds flocking to the Town Hall Grounds on Saturday, leaving organisers breathing a sigh of relief.

Joyce Maleham, secretary of Wath-upon-Dearne Community Partnership, said: “Thankfully everyone who had booked a stall turned up and were determined it should go ahead, so there was no danger we would call it off.

“About 1pm the sun came out and it warmed up a bit.

“Staff from Capita organised the children’s fun and games and provided the prizes, which was lovely.

“But the talk of the gala was the schools choir, which sounded absolutely brilliant, and had members from the schools across Wath.”

Live music, the popular dog show, stalls selling gifts, plants and cakes and a keenly-contested tug of war all featured.

Joyce said funds raised would go to the Community Partnership, which runs the Wath Festival, gala, spring garden party and Christmas events.

She said planning had already started for the festive spectacular, adding: “I can put my feet up now — but not for too long.”
