Peter Jenkinson has been elected as the president of Wombwell Probus Club.

He takes over from retiring president George Young.

Mr Jenkinson has been a member of the club — which meets on the first Tuesday of each month at St Michael’s & All Angels church hall on Park Street, Wombwell — for five years.

Spokesman Anthony Pollard said: “Peter said that the club’s motto was ‘friendship, fellowship and fun’ and expressed the hope that we could encourage an increase in new members.

“Members meet to enjoy the company of like-minded fellow retirees, to explore new interests and hobbies, have regular outings, and listen to a range of interesting guest speakers.

“In the summer we meet regularly for crown green bowling sessions at Platts Common Green.”
