The Reytons are the new box office Wizards of Oz

THE Reytons are heading towards the end of a hugely successful international tour after smashing their box office records.

The band, whose sell-out homecoming at Clifton Park brought in around £1 million to Rotherham’s economy, has just completed a series of shows in Australia.

They have been selling out halls in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne over September and the start of October.

And tickets will be equally hard to find for future performances, it seems.

After the final Aussie gig, the group posted: “What a way to finish! It's hard to put into words the feelings we've experienced on this tour...Thank you! It's been unbelievable. From Rotherham to the world.”

And before that, in Sidney, they wrote “It just keeps getting bigger! We're absolutely blown away by what's happening over here in Australia...We couldn't be much further away from home if we tried and yet it feels like a party at the neighbours!”

They certainly went down a storm with ex-pats and locals alike, with venues reaching capacity.

One South Yorkshire-born Facebook reviewer revealed: “I turned up purely on the fact you’re from Rovrum and you’re called The Reytons. I made a conscious effort not to listen to any of your music before the night.

“You blokes were fresh and out there. No better way to discover a band than live and at their best. Cheers lads. Reyt chuffed. From Andy from Woodhouse - 33 years in Oz.”

Their tour doesn't end just yet.

On Friday (October 11) they play at a live music venue called Space Odd, in Shibuya, Japan, where every ticket has long since been snapped up.

Then, they appear to have some rest lined up before going on the road in the UK, with concerts planned for the 02 Academy, in Brixton, (February 2) where there are only a small amount of tickets available.

It is a similar story at Bournemouth's 02 Academy the following night.

And gigs at Blackpool (Feb 14) Birmingham (15) and Newcastle (21) have gone already.

Manchester's Aviva Studios has sold out for a Reyton's gig on March 8, too.

The ‘kids off the estate’, are now recognised as one of the UK's premier indie bands and have had over 110 million streams on Spotify.

Their admirers include boxing world champion Terri Harper and former footballer Gary Neville.

Meanwhile Bolton upon Dearne band The Sherlocks have announced a new album 'Everything Must Make Sense!' which will go on sale in February.

Drummer Brandon Crook said: “From a personal point of view on the drums it was definitely the most demanding album I’ve ever recorded. I was pushed to new heights, but I’m so glad as the record sounds incredible. The fans are going to be blown away.”
