Rotherham MP launches child abuse campaign

SARAH Champion has launched a national campaign aimed at preventing child abuse.

Dare2Care includes a website created by industry experts to provide a hub bringing together survivors, parents, young people and professionals.

It will act as a hub where people can share their experiences and access support resources.

Rotherham MP Ms Champion, the shadow minister for preventing abuse and domestic violence, said: “The horror and scale of child exploitation has shocked me to the core.

“I have become increasingly frustrated that we only seem to act once the crime has been committed.

“I believe it is time to lead the cultural fightback, starting with Dare2Care, to make sure that all children are properly supported and informed to prevent abuse happening.”

Dare2Care was launched at the NSPCC offices in London on Tuesday morning.

It aims to bring survivors, parents, young people and people working in dealing with abuse together at a series of meeting this spring to share stories, ideas and solutions and recommend policy changes.

Ms Champion said: “The campaign focuses on the points in a child’s life when intervention can prevent them becoming an abuser, and give all children the tools and resilience to better protect themselves from abuse.

“The role of online pornography and on line abuse is also investigated to see how this is impacting on sexual abuse and relationship violence amongst young people.

“All of the information gathered will be used to inform policy, change attitudes and practice aimed at preventing violence against women and girls and the normalisation of violence.

“Following on from the roundtable discussions, we will then invite a group of young people to debate the outcomes so their views are at the heart of what we take forward.”
